We are thrilled to announce the start of a new kitchen remodel project in Versailles, KY. This project stands out because of its unique features and the exciting challenge it presents. The kitchen we will be working on includes a two-tier peninsula and builder original cabinetry. Our goal is to enhance the kitchen’s functionality and design while respecting the existing footprint to avoid any flooring replacement issues. Tomorrow, we will be heading out to measure the space and discuss the vision with our customer. Here’s a closer look at what makes this project special and what we plan to achieve.
Understanding the Existing Kitchen Layout
The kitchen currently features builder original cabinetry, which means the cabinets were installed when the home was first built. These cabinets are solid but have room for improvement in terms of storage and style. One of the most interesting elements is the two-height peninsula. This design adds visual interest and separates the kitchen from the adjacent living space, but it also presents some layout challenges.
Our customer wants to keep the kitchen footprint the same. This means no changes to the floor plan that would require replacing the flooring. This is a smart choice because it saves time and money while still allowing for a fresh new look. The focus will be on reimagining the layout within the existing space to improve flow and usability.
The Vision: Stacked Uppers and Crown Moulding
One of the key design goals is to take the cabinets all the way to the ceiling. This could be done by adding stacked uppers, which are additional cabinet layers above the standard upper cabinets. Stacked uppers maximize vertical storage space and create a more polished, custom look. They also help keep the kitchen organized by providing extra room for items that are not used daily.
To finish the look, we would add crown moulding at the top of the cabinets. Crown moulding adds elegance and a sense of height to the kitchen, making the ceiling feel taller and the space more open while elevating the eyes upward for an airy open feel. It also ties the cabinetry into the overall design of the home, creating a seamless transition between the kitchen and other rooms.
Reimagining the Layout for Better Functionality
While the footprint remains the same, we will explore ways to improve the kitchen’s functionality. This includes:
Adjusting cabinet placement to create better work zones
Adding pull-out shelves or organizers inside cabinets for easier access
Enhancing lighting under the stacked uppers to brighten the workspace
Considering appliance placement for smoother cooking and cleaning flow
Our goal is to create a kitchen that works better for the customer’s daily needs without major structural changes. This approach respects the existing space while delivering a fresh, modern feel.
